PG26 Jemez pottery Mary Small male storyteller. 3" tall x 2"

$110.00

Native American Jemez pottery storyteller, by Mary & Simon Small, male with two children - Pueblo clay

This charming storyteller was acquired personally from Mary Small in 2001. Mary Small was born in July 1940, into the Jemez Pueblo Sun Clan. Her mother, Perfectita Toya started her down the path to pottery perfection.

For many years she worked with younger potters to encourage excellence and instill a sense of pride in their work.

Mary has earned award after award during her career, culminating in being named the Indian Arts and Crafts Association Artist of the Year in 2002 and 2010.

Working with her husband, Mary experimented with natural materials before finding her trademark blue/gray slip and burnt red/orange designs. Mary describes her finished work as, "…blessed, they have power."
