PE34 Navajo Lorenzo Spencer bowl with kiva designs. 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"

$160.00

Native American Navajo Bowl by Lorenzo Spencer, with incised kiva design.

Navajo Lorenzo Spencer works in the Cow Springs area of Navajo Nation, Arizona, where pottery makers use local clays and hand-build traditional Navajo bowls and vases. Lorenzo is married to Susie Crank, daughter of the Navajo matriarch of pottery. Rose Williams.

Susie taught Lorenzo to build pots, but Lorenzo and Susie work independently, with each showing stylistic differences. His designs resemble designs used by Navajo weavers. They are lightly formed, with added slip to enable sgraffito to refine the surface textures. Lorenzo’s firing technique is true to Navajo traditions plus a coating of warm pinon pitch cooling.
4.5" x 4.5" #PE34
