PD61 Jemez Brenda Tafoya seed pot with sgraffiti owls. 5" x3"

$440.00

This Brenda Tafoya Jemez Pueblo seed pot gives the collector two views of beautifully formed pottery.

On one side two owls perch in deep brown slip sgrafitto. On the reverse, calming, smooth beige is accented by diagonals of indented surface in cream color. This is an owl collector’s delight. 5" x 3"

Sqraffito is a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color, typically done in slip on ceramics before firing. Brenda Tafoya, who is the daughter of Vangie Tafoya, is an expert at this technique, as evidenced in the beauty and finesse of this pot. Brenda also is a top-tier pottery maker using other techniques that form her vessels with particular grace.

Brenda’s talents descend naturally from her mother, Vangie, who inspired Brenda to pursue pottery making, using clays from the Jemez hills.
