Anderson Peynetsa learned how to make pottery in the eighth grade. He is one of the most respected potters at Zuni Pueblo following traditional methods. He gathers the local clay and collects natural pigments to paint on his hand coiled, thin-walled pots. The walking deer with heartline graphic is one that frequently shows up on Anderson’s pots.

He is often assisted by Avelia, his wife, who whose ability to sand and polish compliments his well-formed pots. This pot was signed A Peynetsa, which suggests it was a project involving only Anderson since collaborations with Avelia, are signed "AA Peynetsa".

Anderson’s pottery has been exhibited at major Native American art markets and shows, such as the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Museum of Northern Arizona Zuni Show, the Heard Museum Show, and the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Show.

Noreen Simplicio was born into the Zuni Pueblo badger clan ca. 1965. She began serious pottery work in high school, where she received from Jannie Laate, an experienced Pueblo potter from Acoma Pueblo.

Acoma continued to be an influence in her creative development when she studied under Angelina Medina, an almost legendary Acoma potter.

Noreen has been quoted as saying, “My unique pottery forms are characterized by distinctive designs that combine traditional Zuni pottery symbols with contemporary design elements of my own creation.”

Noreen has won numerous awards and ribbons since her first win in 1988.

Native American Zuni bowl by Deldrick and Lorenda Cellicion, with scalloped lip and flower motif painted around the exterior. Created in 1997. Acquired in 2000 from IPCC in Albuquerque, NM.

Deldrick's work is included in "Southwestern PotteryL: Anasazi to Zuni" by Hayes and Blom; and in Dr. Gregory Schaaf's "Southern Pueblo Pottery: 2000 Artist Biographies".

The Cellicions, Deldrick and Lorenda, collaborate to produce authentic Zuni Pueblo pottery by traditional hand-coiled means. This bowl differs from much of their pottery in that it does not include 3-dimensional features common to their lizard pattern. On the other hand, open bowls made by Zuni potters are not rare. This one differs again in that its motifs are floral rather than animal subjects.

Native American Zuni Pueblo Tony Lorenzo seedpot, tan slip with painted Kokopelli and lizard in 3-D relief on the shoulder.

Tony Lorenzo received 1st & 2nd place awardsin the 2015 Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial. The raised lizard is one of his favorite designs.

Tony is known for his hand coiled, hand painted raised lizard pots. His pots are fired outside in the traditional Zuni manner.

Yvonne Nashboo, was born into the Eagle Clan in 1995. She is the daughter of Eva and William Nashboo. Yvonne is known for effigy pots in polished redware. Yvonne also frequently collaborates with Brian Tsethlikai. Yvonne learned pottery making from her high school teacher, Phil Hughte, and her sister, Tammy Belson.

Yvonne says she favors lizards in her effigies because they are supposed to bring good luck.

Tammy Bellson was born in 1966, the daughter of Eva and William Nashboo of Zuni. Tammy Bellson is the sister of Yvonne Nashboo, another Zuni Pueblo potter of note. Both Yvonne and Tammy credit their grandmother for starting them in pottery making.

Tammy incorporates lizards and frogs, among other creatures, in her work, often using sculptural methods to accentuate them in three-dimensional relief.
