PF58R Hilda Coriz Kewa pot. 3" x 4"

$150.00

Small (3 inches high by 4 inches wide) traditional Santo Domingo bowl by Hilda Coriz (d). Bisque colored native clay is over-painted with black and cream pattern. Natural clay presents inside and on the base. Signed Hilda Coriz on the base.

Hilda Coriz (née Hilda Tenorio; 1949–2007) was a sister of award-winning potter Robert Tenorio, and began making pottery with the encouragement of her brother. She continued making pottery after Robert’s passing, often in collaboration with her husband, Arthur.

They made pottery using the traditional methods of Santo Domingo potters. They used only natural clays and the Rocky Mountain bee plant, also known as wild spinach, and honey for making the black paint.

They signed their collaborated pottery with both names. Since this pot is signed only by Hilda it is probable that it was her work alone.
